Sunday, October 2, 2022, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Description

A continuation from the beginning of the weekend, this workshop asks us to explore how caring for ourselves is a vital part of caring for our community and organizing for liberation. Participants will make a tangible example of self-care through creating their own Fire Cider Tonic to support health and wellness into the Fall.

Nana (Nan-nuh), ( she/her) is from Savannah, Georgia and currently attends college in Portland, Oregon. Last summer she was a part of SOF's youth fellowship which she loved! She was introduced to Highlander through Deep Center, a youth social justice organization that first got her into activism. She wants to become an immigration lawyer, and is studying Spanish and Psychology. Nana is also a first generation American, which really inspired her to want to pursue immigration law.

Asia (he/they) also goes by Teddy and is 24. He lives in Durham, NC but is from Mobile, Alabama. He is a founder of and the cultural organizer for a non-profit called Black Empowerment Team, which centers food justice, housing justice, harm reduction, and queer advocacy for black folks. Teddy is also a musician, an opera singer, and a poet. His dream for the South is safety. And if the safety of one of us is threatened (us as in queer and trans folks) then the safety of all of us is at risk. We not free til we all free.

Teddy G (they/them/theirs) is originally from Birmingham, AL. They were born into organizing work through their family, most notably their great-grandfather, who worked closely with Artur Davis & MLK Jr. as a lawyer during the civil rights movement. They are a cultural organizer and teacher/caretaker by nature. While living in Nashville, they created an open mic called "On The LEJ" for Black & Brown Queer and Trans folks and provided childcare via an abolitionist childcare curriculum. They currently serve in the capacity of Interim Program Manager for Highlander's Seeds of Fire (SOF) Program.
