Description

Monifa Bandele (Malcolm X Grassroots & Moms Rising), Montague Simmons (Movement for Black Lives). This session will introduce the M4BL approach to reparations and ground in definitions, historical context, and new innovations. We will focus on using reparations/repair framing in campaign demands to change conditions to make revolution more possible.

Sr. VP and Chief Strategy Officer at MomsRising, Monifa Bandele (she/her) co-leads a national and online grassroots organization of more than a million people fighting for economic security and justice for moms, women, and families. She directs the organization’s work on reproductive justice, maternal and children’s health, and criminal justice reform.

Director of Strategic Partnerships for the Movement for Black Lives, Montague (he/ him) is a native of St. Louis. Montague has worked to build movements locally and nationally that are rooted in building Black political power and self-determination, advancing the leadership of oppressed nationalities and gender identities and centering the most marginalized.
